Automobile Rental Insurance

Before getting Automobile Rental Insurance find out what coverages your Car Insurance includes. In many cases, your regular auto insurance is more than sufficient to protect you financially if you do damage a rental car.

If you do not have Auto Insurance and rent a car, you may obtain insurance at the rental agency.

There are four main types of coverages the insurance companies offer. They include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), Supplemental Liability Protection (SLP), Personal Accident Insurance (PAI), and Personal Effects Coverage (PEC).

CDW will cover all or part of its cost if the rental car is stolen or damaged, provided the car is not driven by an unauthorized driver or driven recklessly.

SLP protects you and all authorized drivers of the rental vehicle against third-party bodily injury and property-damage claims for which you are legally liable.

PAI provides medical, ambulance and death benefits for the renter and passengers of the rental car in the event of an accident.

PEC covers accidental death and accidental medical expenses for the renter who is covered under the policy.

Mind that all the coverages are optional and it is for you to decide whether paying your rental company for insurance is necessary.
